When you look in the mirror, how do you feel about the appearance of your face? Does your face look sunken or deflated? Do you feel as though you always look tired? Aging can have many effects, including wrinkles, age spots, and loss of fat in the face. While some signs of aging, such as wrinkles and age spots, can be treated and even prevented with creams and procedures like the CO2RE laser, the loss of fat in the face is harder to prevent. Thankfully, it is treatable via a procedure called fat transfer augmentation.
What Is Fat Transfer Augmentation?
Fat transfer augmentation is the use of your body’s own fat to fill out sunken areas of the face that have naturally lost fat over time. This is actually what causes the sunken, tired look that occurs as we age. Often, fat transfer augmentation can be combined with a minor face-lift. The procedure can also be done with high-quality fillers such as Restalyne, Juvederm, and Sculptra.
How Is Fat Transfer Augmentation Performed?
With fat transfer augmentation, Dr. Sanovich takes harvested fat (usually removed from the abdomen or thigh) and, after centrifuging it for uniformity, injects it into the face in such a way that the cheeks and any other thinned-out areas of the face appear fuller and more youthful. The procedure is done on an outpatient basis, and recovery is usually quick, with most patients returning to their usual activities within several days.
Areas that can be treated by fat transfer augmentation include the cheeks, under eyes, lip lines, and facial folds. It can even be used to plump up thin lips.
What Are the Benefits?
Fat transfer augmentation can give you a fuller, more youthful-looking face, often without requiring a face-lift. This less invasive procedure means you can get back to your life faster, and with beautiful, lasting results. Unlike synthetic fillers, the benefit to using your own body fat to fill in the face is that there is less chance that your body will reject the fat because it is already part of your body.
